About 'greek god hermes'|Jen checks out the Greek god Hermes
Best friends often turn into mortal enemies. When you are a nearly immortal demi-god, son or daughter of a human and a god or goddess, finding friends and beating enemies can be very tricky. Don't you always know that when you are the new kid on the block and the first person who wants to be your friend is a popular kid they are always up to no good? This is a typical scenario in everyday life but for demi-gods Percy Jackson and Luke, son of Hermes, their friendship turned brutal enemy battle was more than your run of the mill jealousy issues. In Percy Jackson & the Olympians: Lightning Thief, Percy Jackson is new to the idea of being Poseidon's son and a demi-god. The son of Hermes, Luke, takes Percy onto his team and generally befriends him, even going so far as to give him tools with which Percy can travel to the Underworld and retrieve his mother from Hades. It turns out that Luke was playing Percy all along, using him to steal Zeus' lightning bolt and get revenge on all of the gods because of his "daddy issues". It seems that Hermes wasn't around much. Hermes was an Olympian god that had the task of being messenger from the gods to humans as well as being a guide to the Underworld. In many stories, he is depicted with winged feet or a winged hat to allow him to travel more quickly to and from his delivery points, including the Underworld. Hermes is the god of athletes and travelers. Many who were in the first Olympic Games prayed and sacrificed to Hermes that their athletic abilities would be the best and that injury would stay far from them. As with many gods, Hermes had a side to him that was dishonorable. He was considered to be a robber and a thief when he could get away with it. Being the great messenger of the gods as well as a thief apparently took a lot of time away from raising his son and Percy Jackson almost paid the price for Hermes' fatherly neglect. |
